Make the curry paste: In a small bowl, mix turmeric powder, black pepper, and a bit of water to make a paste. Cook the spices: In a pan, heat a little oil. Add garlic, cinnamon stick, curry leaves, and green chilies. Stir fry for a few seconds. Add the fish and spices: Add the fish to the pan, followed by the turmeric and pepper paste. Stir well to coat the fish evenly. Add goraka and water: Add dried goraka (or tamarind) and water. Let it simmer for 5 minutes until the fish is cooked and the curry thickens slightly. Finish with lime juice: Add lime juice and stir. Taste for seasoning and adjust salt if needed.
